DEATH William Alexander, 46, of Charlotte, died May 13, 2000 at Carolinas Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Beasley's Funeral Home. Gladys Kerr. Betty retired from Belk Mrs. Gwenda Stores Services, Inc, after 34 years of Braswell, 56 of service.

She was a member of Plaza 12, 2000 at Presbyterian Church. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 16, 2000 from the Adkins, sanctuary of Plaza Presbyterian Church with The Reverend G. Thomas Pastor, officiating.

Adkins was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernest friend. Mrs. Betty Avery Kerr Adkins, 73, of Charlotte, NC, died 1 May 12, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital. Mrs. Adkins was born March 16, Charlotte, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Charles and Lloyd 'Bill' Adkins, and son, Ernest Charles 'Skipper' Adkins.

She is survived by her sister, Kareen Jackson and her husband, Bill of Myrtle Beach, SC; her son, Daniel G. Adkins and grandson, Daniel D. Adkins both of Charlotte; nieces and nephews of the Adkins, Kerr and Chambers family, especially Chris and his wife Brenda of Mint Hill and Leslie Adkins. Betty leaves a legacy of love and respect for her many friends and family. Betty's family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Hospital, especially the Physical Therapy Department, Thomas, Peggy and Debbie and staff on the 5th floor for their care and understanding.

Gilbert Martin Frederick Brauch, 89, of Charlotte, NC, died on May 12, 2000 at Southminster Retirement Community. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 E. Morehe ad Street, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Mr. Brauch was born March 1, 1911 in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Henry and Caroline Kroeter Brauch. After graduating from Normandy High School he attended Washington University in St. Louis.

He was employed by Ralston Purina Company for 40 years and was Branch Manager of the Charlotte Plant for the 22 years prior to his retirement in 1970. While working he was active in the North Carolina Feed Manufacturer's Association, serving on the Board of Directors' and as Association President. Brauch was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church since 1949, serving as Elder, Trustee, Financial Secretary and President of the Men's Club. He was active in establishing the Cub Scout pack at the church and was a member of the Senior Adult Ministry Group. He was a member of the Myers Park Civitan Club where he was active in the Little League Baseball program, and the North Carolina Rotary Club where he served on the Board of Directors and as President.

He received the Rotary International Service Award and was the two-time recipient of the Charles J. May award as Rotarian of the Year. Upon retirement, Mr. Brauch served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of the Charlotte Exchange Student Program for 17 years. He was recognized by the B'nai B'rith Women as Citizen of the Year for his work in this program.

Mayor H. Edward Knox declared Gilbert Brauch Day in Charlotte on February 6, 1980 in recognition of this occasion. Among his volunteer efforts were work with the United Appeal, Chamber of Commerce Board, Crisis Assistance Ministry and American Cancer Society. Along with his wife he delivered Friendship Trays for over 10 years. He was a member of Myers Park Country Club and enjoyed golf.

For many years he was a Marshal at the PGA Senior Golf Tournaments in Charlotte. Surviving family members are his wife of 60 years, Eunice Mohman Brauch; son, Col. (Ret) Gilbert M.F. Brauch, Jr. and wife Annie of Springfield, VA; daughters Carolyn ('Susie') Jackson and husband Bill of Raleigh, NC; and Elizabeth ('Betty') Hilliard of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Debra Brauch Starnes and husband Richard of Hickory, NC; Donna Brauch Lee and husband Wade Hickory, NC; Scott Melver Jack on of Charlotte, NC; and Diane Jackson Britt and husband Cliff of Charlotte, NC; great-granddaughter, Tara Elizabeth Starnes of Hickory, NC; and Exchange Student daughter Karen Tallroth Dorring and husband Hans of Sweden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Henry, and his son-in-law, David Hilliard. Mr. Brauch will always be present with his family in their hearts. Those who knew him around the work will always remember him true friend; a man of highest integrity; a caring individual; a thoughtful, clever and generous man; and an exemplary role model. Hil life was guided by his strong and steadfast faith; as well as these words he often recited from his Ralston Purina days: 'Aspire Nobly, Adventure Daringly, Serve He was truly a remarkable man.

Mrs. Johnson was born on August 9, 1921, in Red Springs, NC, a daughter of the late Grady Harrell and Cornelia McNeil Harrell.

She was a graduate of the Philadelphus School in Robeson County, NC, and was a longtime member of Commonwealth United Methodist Church, in Charlotte, where she belonged to the Church Circle. I Mrs. Hattie B. Nance, 90, of 1201 Leigh Avenue, Charlotte, NC died Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Saturn Nursing and Rehabilitation. The daughter of the late Gaither Blair Brown and York Brown, Nance was born on October 25, 1909 in York County, South Carolina. A homemaker, she united with the Methodist faith while a child.

In the 1930's, she moved to Charlotte and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was an active member of many auxiliaries, including the Hymn Choir, Missionary Board and Usher Board, for more than 50 years. She is survived by one son, George Nance, Jr. (Lib) of the Bronx, NY; five daughters, Mary N. Mayhew of the Bronx, NY, Emma N. co*ker of Charlotte, NC, Maggie N.

Caldwell (Joseph) of Mount Vernon, NY, Christine Nance of Charlotte, NC and Frances N. McKee (John) of Charlotte, NC; and a sister, Mamie B. Barber of the Bronx, NY. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 51. great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Alexander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. John Malcolm 'Mac' Nisbet, of Charlotte and Coinjock, NC, died of heart disease on Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1919, in Raeford, NC, the son of Bonnie Dixie McBryde and Thomas Albertis Nisbet. Having grown up in Wilmington, NC, Mac was a 1940 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and was voted permanent president of his class. He served in the US Navy from 1941-1946 as Commander of an Armed Guard Crew that was in a convoy to Murmansk, Russia.

He also served aboard the USS Delta in the Atlantic Theatre of Operations, and as an executive officer on the USS Newman in the South Pacific with the rank of Lt. Commander. Mac was co-owner of a food locker in Washington, NC for several years. He moved to Philadelphia and became a VP of Marketing for the computer industry in its formative years selling main frame computers for Addressograft, Burroughs, Univac, Philco, Ford Motor Company, and Sanders and Associates. In 1980 he had a heart attack and retired to Coinjock, NC.

He married Mary Swan Dodson of Rydal, PA, who preceded him in death in 1994. Mac is survived by his second wife, Judith Bullock Nisbet; four sons, John M. Nisbet, and David M. Nisbet, both of Raleigh, NC, Peter A. Nisbet, of Santa Fe, NM, and Thomas C.

Nisbet, of Winnebow, NC; two granddaughters, Michelle M. Kolb, of Mont Vernon, NH, and Dawn Nisbet of Raleigh, NC; one great grandson, Eric Kolb, of Mont Vernon, NH; his stepdaughter, Cynthia Thomson, of Charlotte, NC; and two step-sons, Richard Thomson, of Charlotte, NC, and James Thomson, of Phoenix, AZ. Wallace was born Nov. 24, 1926 in Oakland Park, the youngest of eleven children to Marion A. Griffin and Allie Richardson Griffin. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Oakland Park, 801 NE 34th Court, where he was a charter member and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher for Youth and Adults, RA Leader, Finance Committee, Church Treasurer, Training Union Leader and Choir Member. He served in each of these capacities many times over his fifty years of membership.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Gladys Robertson Griffin, one son, David Wallace Griffin, daughterin-law, Lory Griffin and two grandchildren, Matthew David and Natalie Megan Griffin all of Charlotte, NC. Wallace joined the US Navy at 16 years old. After basic training in Jacksonville, he was stationed at Naval Air Station, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and then served on Okinawa until the end of the Pacific War. He was discharged Jan.

4, 1946, and married his 'sweetheart', who waited for him, on May 4, 1946. He finished his high-school education at Pine Crest School then graduated from Broward Business College. Wallace established his accounting practice as Wallace Griffin Accounting Income Tax Service in Oakland Park, from which he retired in 1989. He will be remembered by a multitude of friends as a loving, caring, Christian man. His family will remember his love, support and everlasting optimism.

He was a fighter and 'quit' was not a part of his vocabulary. He was an inspiration and 'hero' to others. When diagnosed with cancer in Dec. 1997, he prayed that God would continue to strengthen his faith and banish his fear. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home. GASTONIA Mr. Frederick Samuel Lytle, of Gastonia, died May 12, 2000 at Manorhouse of Gastonia. Fred was a special and gracious friend to many, a Black Mountain, NC; the youngest son of Joseph and Louise Lytle.

He was a 1939 graduate of Lee Edwards High in Asheville, and attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship. In 1941 he was drafted in to military service and served the U.S. Army as a lieutenant for six years, receiving the Purple Heart when wounded in France during World War II. IN 1948, he returned to the University of South Carolina; where he earned his degree and played basketball. Following graduation, he worked with Buick Motor Division of General Motors as a district representative.

In 1957 he purchased the Buick franchise in Gastonia, NC, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Gaston Country Club, a place where he enjoyed his friends and his love of golf. A lifelong Presbyterian, he belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Clarke Lytle; an two brothers, Mac and Tom. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David R.

and Suzanne Whitaker Lytle of Huntersville; daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie L. and Jim May of W. Friendship, and Lisa L. and Gray Lytton of Gastonia; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren whom he adored, Chris, Andy, and Elizabeth May, Drew and Alex Lytton, Chris and Emily Lytle, and Katie and Cody May. Fred endeared himself to all who met him.

He leaves behind a warm legacy of dear friends and acquaintences. Their visits and calls during his illness meant to him an his family. The family also appreciates the love, care and concern given to Mr. Lytle during his illness by Dr. Stephen W.

Nelson was born on October 12, 1906, the daughter of Vick and Mamie Sloan Orr. She was a graduate of Newel High School in Mecklenburg County, the only member of the Class of 1923. After receiving her B.Ed Degree from Asheville Normal Teachers College in 1927, Mrs. Nelson taught in the Mecklenburg County School system until 1938. She then worked in the Forsyth County School system.

In 1952 she received her Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 1955 until her retirement 1971, she worked as both a teacher and supervisor in the Guilford County and Greensboro City School systems. Mrs. Nelson was married to Hugh Bryant Nelson, who died in 1967. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Lucille Orr Kenny and Louise Orr Munhall, and brothers, John Calvin Orr, Victor Henry Orr, Franklin Hill Orr, and Otho Alexander Orr.

Survivors include her sister, Sarah 0. Allen of Hilton Head, SC, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends following the committal service, in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cemetery Fund of Pleasant Ridge United Church of Christ, 2049 Pleasant Ridge Road, Greensboro, NC 27410, or Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
