Rangers pulled off a remarkable 5-2 comeback victory over Dundee at Ibrox this evening to prolong the Scottish Premiership title race into another day at least.

They were made to work hard for their victory though as they fell two goals behind in two frenetic first-half minutes as first Jordan McGhee and then an outrageous, improvised back-heel finish from Antonio Portales looked like they were going to keep Tony Docherty's men in the hunt for the last European place going into the final round of fixtures this weekend.

With Cup Final places up for grabs in Philippe Clement's injury-hit squad, there was always going to be a response and Ross McCausland reduced the arrears just before half time with a well-taken toe-poke through Jon McCracken's legs in the visitors' goal.

Rangers came out fighting in the second half and were level seven minutes into it as Cyriel Dessers bulleted a header past McCracken before Todd Cantwell's incredible cross-cum-shot evaded the keeper and snuck in off the far post.

The Dundee keeper was keeping the score down as he looked like a one-man force repelling attack after attack from the hosts, doing brilliantly to deny Fabio Silva and Dessers especially with some top saves, but he was helpless as Scott Wright found the space to add a late brace from the bench to add some gloss to the scoreline and reduce the goal difference between the top two to four.

It's over to Celtic now as Rangers make them wait to wrap up the title with a point or better at Rugby Park tomorrow night. Should the improbable happen and they fail to deliver, we'll head into a final day decider on Saturday.

Boyd: Treble is on

Kris Boyd drew gales of laughter from fellow pundit Chris Sutton by suggesting that the Treble is still on for Rangers. Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd said:

He was instrumental [Cantwell] in the second half. Rangers were really poor in the first half but in the second half came out and took the game to Dundee and scored some really good, well worked goals. Scott Wright when he came on, he got the two goals, but there was also a work rate, desire and willing to run. I think a lot of it came from a few of the young boys coming on and getting an opportunity and they done well. And erm the treble is still on..

The Wright stuff

Scott Wright stepped off the bench to bag a late brace for Rangers to add to the late goal glut at Ibrox this evening as Rangers eventually cruised to a 5-2 win.

Yeah, it's ideal for me, as you say I want to come on and make an impact. It helps when you come on with such good players around you to get you on the ball, try and bring more freshness to the team and try and get more goals.

It's important to make an impact [given the injury situation] and we're all at training, just trying to make sure we can stay ready for whenever we're called upon, whether there's injuries or not, you need to be ready to take a chance when you're given it.

Cantwell post-match

Rangers vs Dundee – RECAP (2)

Todd Cantwell was all business in his post-match interview as the English playmaker spoke of the need to respond after the disappointment of the Old Firm defeat.

We had to, you know obviously two sloppy goals in the first half so we needed a reaction for the fans.

I'm not interested in talking about that [whether he meant his goal] to be honest. Obviously we had a disappointing week last weekend so we had to win today, that was the bottom line.

It's always important [to put on a show]. It's difficult [taking the knocks], they go man for man so I had a friend most of the game following me around so, they're a good enough side. At the end Scott's [Wright] come on, we've got so much quality in players like that. With a bit of freedom he can go on and change the game for us and get two great goals.

Talking points

Rangers recovered from falling two goals behind to dump Dundee 5-2 at Ibrox - and ensure Celtic will have to work for the one point they need to be crowned champions at Rugby Park tomorrow night.

It was a quite the night at Ibrox with Jordan McGhee and Antonio Portales stunning the home crowd.

However, Ross McCausland netted at the end of the first half before strikes from Cyriel Dessers, Todd Cantwell and a double from sub Scott Wright ensured a win for the home side in their final home game of the season.

KEY EVENT

FT: Rangers 5-2 Dundee

Rangers vs Dundee – RECAP (3)

It's full-time at Ibrox as Rangers turn it around and prolong the title race into another day with an eventually emphatic 5-2 win over Dundee in their final home win of the season.

Just three points and four goal difference now separate the top two. It's over to Celtic at Rugby Park tomorrow.

KEY EVENT

GOAL: Rangers 5-2 Dundee

Rangers get their fifth to add some gloss to the scoreline as they carve open Dundee, as McCausland finds himself in oceans of space in the middle of the park and he does well to play it in to Scott Wright who finds a good finish low into the opposite corner.

Rangers 5-2 Dundee.

Andy MacKay

Cantwell fires wide

Rangers are wanting a fifth as the ball breaks for Cantwell after passes between himself, Roofe and Wright before he drags his low shot wide.

Andy MacKay

Youthful exuberance

What a run from Robbie Fraser as he bursts past his man to the byline and sends a great low ball into the box with nobody able to get on the end of it in a Light Blue jersey.

Great play by the debutant.

KEY EVENT

GOAL: Rangers 4-2 Dundee

Scott Wright is the man on the scoresheet as Rangers force the ball over the line.

It's a bit of a stramash as the hosts burst into the box in numbers, with Kemar Roofe's effort deflecting to Dowell, who stands it up to the back post, where fellow sub Wright is onto it to hit it into the ground and into the net.

Rangers 4-2 Dundee, surely game over, but Rangers need some more goals if they want to put a dent in the goal difference.

Andy MacKay

Dundee sub

Michael Mellon is on for the visitors, replacing Malachi Boateng.

Andy MacKay

Corner for Dundee

The visitors have been under the cosh for most of the second half, but have themselves a corner after a low cross from the right is turned behind by Tavernier.

The ball spins up off the group at the near post and Butland's having that.

Still Rangers 3-2 Dundee with six minutes remaining plus stoppages.

Andy MacKay

Triple change for Rangers

It is the last action for Dessers as he's replaced by Scott Wright, Diomande is off for Kieran Dowell and Kemar Roofe makes what could be his final Ibrox appearance, replacing Fabio Silva with his contract also coming to an end as things stand.

Andy MacKay

Silva fires over

For someone with so many goals, Cyriel Dessers really frustrates some fans with his dilly-dallying when a chance presents itself and he's drawn some groans from the crowd as he's presented with a great opportunity to shoot, but instead elects to lay it off for Silva, who's in no better position to score and can only shoot over.

The Nigerian then shares a smile with the fans as he takes on a first-time effort from way out, which is just wide, to the cheers of the fans.

Andy MacKay

Subs galore

There are four changes in total as Dundee make three and Rangers one.

For the visitors, Curtis Main is on for Bakayoko, Dara Costelloe comes on for Tiffoney and Finlay Robertson is on for Sylla.

Cole McKinnon is on for Leon King who had been receiving treatment.

Dessers has pointed to the bench and is complaining about his hamstring, which could see another change in the offing soon.

Andy MacKay

Pressure mounting

Rangers have a couple more serious efforts on the Dundee goal, with the first being a stunning save from McCracken from another bullet header from Dessers - I'm not sure how he kept that out - and the second seeing Cantwell smash a cross at Dessers, who can only divert it over the bar from a few yards out.

In Dessers defence that was absolutely smashed at him.

Andy MacKay

Silva denied

Tavernier finds Cantwell at the edge of the area and some very neat footwork from the playmaker allows him to slip in Fabio Silva, whose powerful effort is well kept out by McCracken.

Andy MacKay

Rangers on the hunt

The home side are desperate for more goals here as McCausland nutmegs his man in the middle of the park before playing in Cantwell down the right.

His cross is deflected by an almost Zlatan-esque high over-flick of the leg by Portales that falls for Silva, but the Mexican gets across and denies the Portuguese who looked set to score.

KEY EVENT

GOAL: Rangers 3-2 Dundee

Rangers vs Dundee – RECAP (4)

Rangers complete the turnaround as Todd Cantwell's cross-cum-shot sneaks in off the inside of the far post to give Rangers the lead.

A stunner from the former Norwich man.

Andy MacKay

Into the action

It's an early introduction to the rough and tumble nature of the league for Robbie Fraser, as Silva overcooks an outside-of-the-boot through ball in behind and the youngster chases down the lost cause, tigerishly going in for the challenge on the byline.

Andy MacKay

Rangers sub

It's Ridvan who leaves the field as he continues his injury comeback with a good hour's performance. It's not Borna Barisic who replaces him in what looks like his last chance at an Ibrox outing, but youngster Robbie Fraser who makes his debut.

Andy MacKay

Ridvan drives forward

The Turkish left-back marauds forward with the ball at his feet as the Dundee defence back off but his effort is just over the bar.

That had shades of his excellent goal against Livi in the cup in this stadium, which really kick-started his comeback from injuries.

Andy MacKay

Big save from McCracken

Todd Cantwell seems like a man on a mission here as he does well to exchange passes and evade the Dundee challenges to make space for himself at the edge of the area, before unleashing a powerful low shot that McCracken does well to get down low and keep out.

He sees that all the way but it's a good save nonetheless.

KEY EVENT

GOAL: Rangers 2-2 Dundee

Rangers vs Dundee – RECAP (5)

Rangers are level as Cyriel Dessers bullets in a header from about eight yards out after Silva and Cantwell exchange some neat passes before the English playmaker sends in a good cross for the Nigerian to send his header into the ground and off the slick surface into the back of the net beyond McCracken.

Rangers 2-2 Dundee and it's parity once more.

Andy MacKay

Missed chance for Dundee

The visitors are looking to hit their hosts on the counter-attack and almost set up the perfect one as Lyall Cameron makes a dangerous run in behind, but Scott Tiffoney elects not to pick him out and McCausland slides in on Dodgson to dispossess him.

Andy MacKay

Rangers threaten

The home side are desperate to try and get themselves back into the game, and Silva is at the heart of the action as he works his way to the byline and clips a presentable ball to the back post which just evades McCausland, but Rangers keep it alive and it's worked back across for the Portuguese, whose acrobatic effort flies over the bar.

A bright enough start for the Light Blues, but they need goals - and fast - if they're going to prolong this title race.

KEY EVENT

Second half kicks off

Rangers kick things off in the second half, with the simplest of equations to try and solve. Come back and win in the next 45 minutes, or the title will be officially Celtic's.

Dundee are keeping their slim European hopes alive here and Tony Docherty's men will be desperate to cling onto this lead.

An absorbing second period surely awaits.

Andy MacKay

Dundee stat offers encouragement

The only encouragement for those - of a Light Blue persuasion - who have turned up to watch inside Ibrox is that Dundee have lost a mammoth 22 points from winning positions - the most in the Scottish Premiership.

Whether or not this rag-tag Rangers side can add to that stat is another matter as it's another match where they've struggled to get going.

KEY EVENT

HT: Rangers 1-2 Dundee

Rangers vs Dundee – RECAP (6)

It's half-time in this crazy contest with three goals coming late in the first half, as Dundee moved into the lead with two goals in two minutes through McGhee and a stunner from Portales, before Ross McCausland reduced the arrears for the home side.

KEY EVENT

GOAL: Rangers 1-2 Dundee

Rangers get themselves back into the game as McCausland receives the ball in the inside channel before beating Dodgson to the ball and then jinking it past his man before sending it through the legs of McCracken.

Rangers 1-2 Dundee.
