Nine Favorite Things – Abby and Asher

I often start out writing these posts by looking at the calendar. I like to see what happened over the past week that I may have forgotten. Or what may be coming up that I can share details on. I do this mainly because I always struggle with starting these posts. Fortunately, once I start I’m able to just keep going.

I looked at the calendar just now and quickly realized this is the last Sunday of January 2023. Immediately I thought, wow this month went fast. Nothing this month was overly exciting, but all-in-all, it was a good start to the new year! I am feeling pretty happy and excited! The one thing I’ve been struggling with however is anxious energy every so often, it just randomly can creep up! I’m very positive it’s due to the pressure i sometimes put on myself. Along with the comparison game, which we all know, can be the thief of joy in our lives.

Happily, over the years, I’ve discovered tools to help calm my nerves, but sometimes all I can really do is give my mom a call. Even just telling her I’m feeling anxious, just letting her know, helps. Releasing the words from my personal thoughts helps to calm some of that anxiousness and let it go. Regardless, having days of waking up anxious for literally no reason has been a recurring thing since I started pre-school.

I guess, I just want to say don’t let the pressures of the new year get to you. Read your favorite quotes (I’ll share some below), call a friend, let the words out, ask yourself why you’re anxious. And maybe get yourself outside or simply take some deep breaths. I’m definitely not a doctor, but these tend to be the simple tools that help me. And then, and this is so random, but I’ve also discovered that dry brushing and throwing my legs up the wall every night before bed is a big form of anxiety relief. My point is, work to find the tools that help you personally deal with the anxious energy. And you know? It’s also OK to say you hated this month. Just start February with some positivity and take it one day at a time!

And we have so much to look forward to this February, I am already excited! The Super Bowl is on the 12th and Valentine’s Day is on the 14th. Oh, and I finally have a couple of trips planned (Miami for warmth y’all!). I’m feeling like the year is really getting moving again after the holidays.

What types of recipes are you looking for for the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day? Do you guys enjoy celebrating these holidays? I always have fun with Valentine’s Day! And Super Bowl recipes never disappoint. Let me know what you’d love to see!

Currently, the family is in Aspen for X-Games 2023. Red almost always loves the course there. Plus, the family loves watching him compete somewhere so close to home. Aspen is Asher’s favorite Colorado ski town!

I’ve been surrounding myself with the things I love, flowers, candles, and probably too much online shopping. It’s winter…

Have fun today! Enjoy some favs below.

some bits from this week

1. things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…jewelry! If you want to splurge, Spinelli Kilcollin (so in love with every piece, I got my mom their marigold ring for Christmas). Maria Tash (the prettiest). Kinn (this ring is my favorite). The Last Line (so fun). And then of course you can never go wrong with Tiffany’s. Oh and Jennifer Fisher too. For less expensive, I love Luv AJ and Jenny Bird. So many cute, high-end, but still affordable pieces.

wanting…new notebooks. I use one for writing out recipes, and then another for my daily to-dos. I love the ones from Papier, they are so cute, I think the animal kingdom cover is my favorite. And then Golden Coil has some of my favorite spiral-bound notebooks. I always get the leather covers. What’s your favorite notebook? How about pens too?!

everything in my cart (low)…From Zara, this mock neck body suite is a great basic. Also for basics, I love this simple, cozy wool sweater, and this is such a cute black leather belt that will never go out of style. I really like this denim maxi dress, super cute. Oh and this denim skirt with buttons too. It would be cute with a knit vest and boots. Or maybe try a loafer or comfy clog. And lastly, these round silver earrings…perfection.

Mango had a few cute finds too. I adore this winter long wool coat, cozy wool-blend knit sweater, and button knit cardigan. And have these slit hem pants in my cart.

Ok, last item because I just found these, cashmere blend leggings from Nordstrom. I be these are so comfy.

dreaming of going…15 Beautiful Ski Resorts to Visit This Winter.

loving…Paris couture week! It’s couture week and my guilty my Friday night was spent catching up on all the shows. I think the Fendi show is my favorite. Such stunning gowns. My dream is to attend one of these shows someday.

shopping…for meal prep bowls. I love these pretty glass lunch bowls. I ordered a few.

everything in my beauty cart…It’s always good to switch up shampoo and conditions, below are some I’d test out.

I need to order some new body butters/lotions. I’m eyeing the MUTHA body butter and body oil, Nécessaire The Body Cream, Susanne Kaufmann Body Butter, and I already know I love Augustinus Bader The Body Cream.

I want to test out a couple new Biologique Recherche products. I’m already using their face cream and lip balm already and love them both. Just added their masque vip o2 to my cart. And excited to try Tata Harpers bio-shield face oil.

loving…Diaspora spices. They gave me a build-your-own spice rack kit that’s great for trying out some new flavors.

watching…Emma Roberts’s Guide to Treating Melasma and Mom’s-Night-Out Glam.

traveling to…Aspen. If you’re heading there this winter look at staying at the Hotel Jerome. It’s the cutest hotel with so much small-town charm and cozy vibes, and it’s been there since 1889. To eat, the family went to Matsuhisa for sushi Thursday night and loved it. I think trying out Catch would be fun too. There’s also a new restaurant called Parc that we need to try. And we’ve heard that The Snow Lodge is a great spot as well.

And of course, the shopping! Asher and I love to hit up all the designer spots, but Dior is our Aspen favorite.

watching…Gossip Girl. Finally. After over a year I am committing to finishing the series. I’m on episode 2, but it’s hard to get into it to be honest.

wanting…a simple, sleek mouse pad. This leather option is pretty. Also, I’m ready for a desk/office refresh, anyone else?

everything in my cart (high)…I really, really want to splurge on this silk and cashmere-blend sweatshirt and track pants set from Olivia Von Halle. It’s too much for me, but looks so cozy. I got this wool vest from Isabell Marant for my mom in black. She didn’t keep it, but I still love it. These patent leather point-toe mules from Proenza Schouler are really cute. These Bottega Veneta croc leather boots too, wow, love them too.

The new blondie leather shoulder bag from Gucci is fun. Love these buckled platform ankle boots too.

And lastly, some outerwear. I’m really into fleece jackets, love this Sandy Liang Rooney Fleece in chestnut. This Wardrobe NYC puffer vest is perfect. And wow, this Prada shearling coat is so pretty. But also this shearling jacket from Zara looks similar. And then how cute is this padded leather bomber jacket from Loewe? Oh, and these shearling earmuffs from Coachare not something I would wear, but they are the perfect winter accessory for a trip to Aspen.

shopping…The Sunday Shop. They have a few unique finds for the kitchen and home.

eating…Mona Vand’s “A Taste of Home” meals from Daily Dose. Daily Dose creates health expert-designed, organic meal plans that are delivered to your door, ready-to-eat. And Mona’s plan is so delicious. The cinnamon waffles are especially yum.

listening…5 Steps to Balance Your Hormones with Cycle-Syncing, Food + Daily Habits with Lauren Chambers. So interesting. I’m excited to learn more on this topic. I also started following Lauren, her recipes are great!

wanting…fresh flowers. I’ve hit that point of the winter that leaves me wanting to surround myself with fresh flowers. I love ordering bouquets on Terrain. They’re always so pretty. Expensive, but pretty. Their Valentine’s floras would be the perfect gift for anyone in your life, or yourself! Their Valentine’s Day bouquet is so pretty, but I honestly just want their olive tree.

curious…about dosha. Have you taken this quiz to find out yours? I am a Pitta-Vata.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: what’s your goal for 2023?
a: I have a few!! But personally, to prioritize more sleep and more organization. I’m a late-nighter and early riser. Plus, I want to start pilates. For work, I’d like to continue to step outside of my comfort zone. I’d like to travel more and do more outside of cooking. I also want to focus on a few upcoming big-picture projects we’re working on!!!

q: are you the oldest?
a: I’m in the middle. 3 brothers ahead of me, 2 brothers below me, then Asher, then Oslo.q: I’ve seen stories about your Dennis Gross mask. Just got it! Can you share your thoughts and tips?
a: Personally I love this mask. So does Asher. Some people question whether the at-home masks are really worth it. But honestly, I think I’ve had one breakout in the last two years. I had a facialist (Cynthia Rivas) suggest using the mask for 6 minutes at a time instead of 3 to get better results, so that’s how I do it. Every night, 6 minutes on blue light, then switch and 6 minutes on red light.

q: has snowboarding always been a family thing? Started by your dad?
a: Yes, but it was my older brother, Trevor that got everyone started in snowboarding. Before that, we skied. The first 4 siblings learned to ski first, then snowboard. Everyone after me has snowboarded since day one on the hill.

q: future plans for a health cookbook?
a: Nope! I don’t believe in any kind of diet. For the most part, I cook with only Whole, real foods. Lots of produce, grains, and nothing with added sugars or ingredients I can’t pronounce. I also cook with dairy because we don’t have any issues. European-style organic grass-fed butter is a go-to for me (I love the Straus brand). Meat and cheese too. But I definitely have more vegetable-focused options this month! Very excited for my February recipes!

q: how come we rarely see your mom?
a: She hates to be filmed 🤷🏻‍♀️ I try but it’s rare she lets me. So I respect when people don’t want to be on camera. It’s honestly such a hard thing to do. I get it and I too am very camera-shy at times as well.

q: not a question, but we love recipes and fashion!
a: me too! It makes me happy!

5. What made you laugh this week?

Oslo watching Creighton go on and on about food, just sitting there silently with big curious eyes like…”what is he going on about? Is he going to stop?”.

If you saw my Instagram story, you get it, but see the HBH family’s responses below on Oslo’s thoughts. I LOVED going through these. So fun! And you all totally made me laugh! So many…”give me cookies!”.
